Chrome Conversion Coatings

Chromium-based conversion coatings provide outstanding corrosion protection on aluminum, as well as excellent adhesion properties under organic coatings. Chemetall has a wide selection of products to meet your pretreatment needs.

Chromicoat L25 is a liquid chromate conversion coating for aluminum. Applied by immersion or spray, it provides excellent paint adhesion and improved corrosion resistance. Chromicoat L25 may be controlled to produce light coatings for use on electronic components, medium weight coatings for use under paint, or rich golden coatings for unpainted applications. It is easily metered through automated equipment. For some operations, and particularly high production ones, Chromicoat T3 is used in some applications for replenishment of Chromicoat L25 solutions. Chromicoat L25 can also be used on cadmium and zinc.
Chromicoat L25 RTU is a liquid, acidic material which produces a chromate conversion coating on aluminum by flow-on or low-pressure spray application. Used full strength, it is applied to aluminum parts or surfaces which cannot be chromated in conventional immersion tanks or spray systems.
Chromicoat CLR is a liquid chromate conversion coating for aluminum and its alloys. Applied by immersion or spray, it provides excellent paint adhesion and improved corrosion resistance. ChromiCoat CLR may be controlled to produce colorless coatings with low electrical resistance.

Trivalent Chrome Conversion Coatings

Chemeon TCP-HF is a chemical conversion coating for aluminum, magnesium, zinc and their alloys. It produces a protective coating, which minimizes corrosion as well as improves adhesion capabilities of the surface.
Chemeon TCP-HF EPA is a non-hazardous liquid additive used with Chemeon TCP-HF trivalent chromium aluminum pretreatments to enhance the corrosion resistance performance of unpainted aluminum, in particular, copper-bearing allows such as 2024T3. Chemeon TCP-HF EPA is listed on the Department of Defense online Qualified Products Database for QPL-81706 for Type II, class 1A and 3, Form I (liquid), Method A, B, C (spray, brush, immersion).
Chemeon TCP-HF SP is a chemical conversion coating for aluminum, magnesium, zinc and their alloys. It produces a protective coating, which minimizes corrosion as well as improves adhesion capabilities of the surface.

Non-Chrome Coatings

Due to the increasing cost of chrome disposal, as well as its environmental and health ramifications, non-chrome coatings are becoming increasingly popular in the aluminum finishing industry. Chemetall's non-chrome coatings will provide corrosion resistance and aid in the adhesion of organic coatings under a wide variety of process conditions, and are capable of meeting all AAMA specifications.
Deoxidizer LNC is a non-chromated, acidic material for removing oxides, alkaline etching smut and discoloration from aluminum and aluminum alloys. It is used before chromate conversion coating, non-chrome conversion coating, anodizing, electrical resistance welding, and other operations that require a very low level of surface contamination.

This prepaint coating for aluminum produces colorless to light blue coatings for excellent paint corrosion resistance and adhesion.
OkemCoat 4500 is a liquid formulation used to produce a coating on aluminum extrusions and fabricated aluminum parts. The Okemcoat 4500 coating improves the adhesion and corrosion resistance of subsequently-applied organic coatings. The coating is dried on the metal surface without a final water rinse (dry-in-place). Okemcoat 4500 does not contain chromium compounds. Okemcoat 4500 will impart a colorless to bluish iridescent color on the aluminum surface. Okemcoat 4500 has been shown to the meet the stringent requirements of AAMA 2605.
OXSILAN AL-0500 is a liquid, non-chrome, slightly acidic, silane-based product that enhances the performance of subsequently-applied organic coatings and provides some unpainted corrosion protection. OXSILAN AL-0500 is formulated primarily for aluminum, but it can be used on magnesium and zinc as well. Substrates must be cleaned and thoroughly rinsed prior to processing in OXSILAN AL-0500. OXSILAN AL-0500 is used at ambient temperature by spray, immersion or roll coating. OXSILAN AL-0500 can be used as a dry-in-place product or with a final water rinse. Better unpainted corrosion resistance is provided when OXSILAN AL-0500 is used as a dry-in-place.
Permatreat 617M is a liquid formulation used to produce a coating on aluminum extrusions and fabricated aluminum parts. The Permatreat 617M coating improves the adhesion and corrosion resistance of subsequently-applied organic coatings. The coating is dried on the metal surface without a final water rinse (dry-in-place). Permatreat 617M does not contain chromium compounds. Permatreat 617M will impart a colorless to bluish iridescent color on the aluminum surface. Permatreat 617M has been shown to the meet the stringent requirements of AAMA 2605.
Gardobond X 4744/3 is a non-Cr, dried-in-place pretreatment. It is a liquid, single-component product, designed for application onto hot dip galvanized steel and cold rolled steel. It is also applicable to stainless steel, aluminium and Galvalume. It is an excellent base prior to coil coating paints or automotive weldable primers. This product improves paint adhesion and corrosion resistance.

Reactive

Gardobond X 4707 is an acidic liquid product that produces a non-chrome conversion coating on aluminum and aluminum alloys. Gardobond X 4707 enhances the performance of subsequently-applied organic coatings such as powder paints for architectural applications, clear coatings for aluminum wheels and paints for the military. Substrates must be cleaned prior to processing in Gardobond X 4707. Gardobond X 4707 is used at energy-saving low temperatures by spray or immersion.
Gardobond EPP is a zirconium and titanium based advanced pretreatment process that coats multiple substrates at energy-saving ambient temperature by spray or immersion. Formulated for use on steel, iron, aluminum, zinc and magnesium substrates, Gardobond EPP is compatible with most liquid, powder and electrocoat paints. Gardobond EPP is free of regulated heavy metals for simplified waste treatment and produces almost no sludge for easy maintenance. The working bath of Gardobond EPP has a very low phosphorous content. Gardobond EPP is formulated to yield performance similar to an iron phosphate process. Substrates must be thoroughly cleaned and rinsed prior to processing in Gardobond EPP. A low- phosphorous or phosphorous-free cleaner is recommended before Gardobond EPP.
